Primary renal squamous cell carcinoma is a rare malignancy of the upper urinary tract. Very few of such cases have been reported in the world literature. The diverse aetiological factors, the non-specific clinical presentation and the radiological findings of this tumour lead to a difficulty in its diagnosis. The diagnosis is established only after the histopathological examination of the resected specimen. The case which has been reported here was a case of primary renal squamous cell carcinoma in the left kidney with multiple calculi and hydronephrosis.
