Preface To First Edition
"I was brought up to believe that the only thing worth doing was to add to the sum of accurate information in the world." - Margaret Mead
This thought amply reflects the purpose of the JCDR. Tremendous advancements have been made in the field of Medicine during the last 15 years. This has affected the quality of human life to a great extent and has made a profound impact on society as a whole. The rate of advancements in this field is so high that it needs one to have a re-look at strategies to cope with its application.
Kahlil Gibran once said â âA little knowledge that acts is worth infinitely more than much knowledge that is idleâ. Knowledge has to be disseminated in order be effective and applicative. The World Wide Web has come to stay and it has this tremendous capacity to extend its strands to every nook and corner of the world to seek, provide and distribute knowledge for the welfare of human society.
The major objective of the JCDR journal is to encourage physicians through the Internet, especially from the developing countries who witness a spectrum of disease and acquire a wealth of knowledge to publish their experiences to benefit the medical community. In its effort to reach out to these physicians who may lack the motivation or may be facing constraints of time, the JCDR also offers a variety of services which include - peer review, proof reading, setting up of the bibliography, and English language improvement.
I also felt it necessary to include a âreward elementâ to the publication. After all a physician who has taken the time and effort to publish his findings/experiences does deserve a reward.
The journal, in addition to publishing original research, aims at becoming the vehicle for publication of the findings of doctors at ground level and young postgraduate students. It will also provide detailed commentaries from senior experienced physicians in the country. The topics covered in the journal will be of relevance to physicians, researchers, and specialists alike.
At this juncture it would be extremely remiss on my part if I donât acknowledge the contribution and express my gratitude to the many people who have helped me in this venture. No venture of such magnitude can succeed without team effort. I would like to take this opportunity to thank my website developer Mr. Atul Soni whose infinite patience was indeed commendable. He stoically tolerated and complied with my numerous requests and amendments. I am thankful to Dr Latif (Australia) for his moral support, constructive suggestions and valuable advice and to Prof Chin Theam Lim (Malaysia), Prof Raj Kishan Arora (India), Dr Hari Gopal Gupta (India), Dr Subash Dawari (India), Dr Umesh B Lall (India), Dr Rajan Jain (US) and Ms Flora Huang (Singapore) for joining me in the editorial board.
I also thank Dr Dhanesh and Mrs.Gwen Needham for their helpful inputs, my publishers PSRF India, my Associate Editors and Researchers without whose support this task could not have been completed in so short a time.
Finally I must thank my wife and my son who had exhibited an immense level of patience and my parents and Gurus for their encouragement, faith in my ability and blessings.
This journal and its services are not affiliated to any pharmaceutical or other company. It is a philanthropic effort, owned and supported by Premchand-Shantidevi Research Foundation, India. It is my sincere hope that the JCDR fulfills its commitment to serve the medical community for I strongly believe in the saying - If you have knowledge, let others light their candles in it.
Regards
Dr. Hemant Jain
