JCDR is an academically oriented entity from its inception. In JCDR, editors firmly believe that in order to grow further and develop the journal, a continuous engagement in academic and research activities is essential. Self improvement of staff is promoted. This includes, though not limited to, providing in-house protected time to do research, financial reimbursements of workshops or similar activities. Time to time it has published editorial of it's own experience and journey. The in-house Editorial team attended workshop on Peer Review conducted at AIIMS, New Delhi, on April 2018.. This helped to enhance the knowledge of senior staff and trained the Naive editors. A senior staff recently finished course on "Editor's online resource and training" authored by Pippa Smart. This course had many sequentially laid down modules and exercises, detailing effective Peer review process and editorial functioning. Key editors are members of World Association of Medical Editors (WAME). Chief Editor is in addition a member of Indian Association of Medical Journal editors(IAMJE).
Staff working outside of the editorial is also encouraged to be involved in academic activities. One paper has been recently published detailing the success of the IT team in building and execution of a custom mail management portal.(click here)
Educational seminars and workshops are organized time to time for the office staff. These are aimed to bring in congruence of understanding of set norms of journal. In most of these external academician are invited as well.
Since 2019 July, a full time position for research fellow has been started.
WAME International Conference for Medical Journal Editors, 2015, Delhi, JCDR participation highlights:
JCDR actively participated in the conference. It submitted 11 posters, out of which six posters were accepted. These were drawn out of its own experience and publication data. The topics ranged from plagiarism to making the editorial process more efficient using automation.

Dr. Hemant Jain received, on behalf of the editorial, the Dr. Bruce Squires Award, from John Fletcher Professor (Assistant), University of Ottawa , Department of Family Medicine, for Best Poster on Plagiarism - Google vs Others.
Promoting Research: Besides presenting it own work it also promoted the event by conferring a 225USD award for best poster. This award was won by Parth Gada for his work on :An audit of RCTs published in two high impact journals in 2013 to assess compliance with the CONSORT statement 2010. Editors also attended the preconference workshops. ( Detecting & Responding to Misconduct workshop).
